Incisional Hernias

Overview

  • A hernia occurring at the site of an incision from previous surgery
  • Due to inadequate closure of the muscle and tissues after the incision
  • The bigger the incision, the higher the risk
  • Comorbidities put patients at higher risk due to poor healing
  • Difficult to repair with a high rate of recurrence
  • Often left alone if large with a broad base and low risk of complications in patients with multiple co-morbidities
